But you might be wondering, 

"Who is this Sam guy? And what qualifies him to teach me about prayer? And why is he so handsome?" 

And these are all very good questions.

And the way to answer them, is to tell you my story:

Up until age 13, I lived a pretty normal Christian life.

I went to church with my family every Sunday, for as long as I can remember.

I first prayed "the prayer" when I was 6. 

I was the kid at Sunday school who every teacher loved, because I was quiet, polite, and knew all the answers. 

And then one day when I was 13, my older brother told me to watch a sermon on YouTube. 

I sat down and watched it. 

And something woke up inside me. 

After watching it... it felt like scales had fallen from my eyes. 

This burning pang appeared inside my depths, a deep hunger for more God... more prayer... more closeness... 

At that point, 

my life

my family's lives

my friend's lives

all suddenly seemed so... shallow. So empty. As if they were barely even shadows, of the life we were REALLY meant to be living. I looked around me, and it suddenly seemed like we were all playing games with our lives, and missing out on some far more beautiful, far more dangerous, far more 'everything we've ever wanted' life... somewhere out there, in the deep end of reality...

"WHAT Are We Missing???"

So at age 13,

I began searching

for something deeper.

Deeper than 15 minute quiet times.

Deeper than going to church once a week.

Deeper than evangelistic bumper stickers, and listening to Christian radio hits, and trying to cut out swear words from my vocabulary.

I was utterly convinced. That I - and the vast majority of Christians around me - were missing something. 

So in my free time I began searching for an answer to the question: WHAT exactly were we missing??? 

I slogged through thick theology books.

I spent whole days where I did nothing but read my Bible.

I filled notebook after notebook with diagrams and questions and soul searching.

I prayed for hours at a time.

I took long walks in the cornfields behind my house, talking to God... 

... searching, for that "something"... which seemed to be missing from my life, and from the lives of the millions of Christians around me... 

And Then One Day...

... I stumbled across a small book. 

Just 100 pages long. 

About the size of my hand.

And when I read that little book... it 'clicked' for me. 

And I realized that...

... my deepest joy... my greatest peace... my strongest sense of being a part of something far bigger than myself... had always come to me while I was praying. 

And then this little book

Posed a question

Which focused all my burning desire for a deeper life with God, into a single, practical question: 

"If prayer brings me into God's presence... and God's presence changes me, delights me, and empowers me more than anything else... why not teach myself to pray every minute of every day?" 

How I Found Heaven On Earth

And so towards the end high school I became obsessed with this question: 

HOW. 

In very concrete, very practical terms...

... can any woman, and any man, regardless of what job or role or physical condition they are in...

...  take steps towards a life where they are praying every minute of every day - and keep on stepping in that direction until they find heaven on earth - and live their entire lives, continuously, from that place?

I spent the next decade of my life trying to answer that question, 

... setting timers on my phone to remind me to pray... trying "breath prayers"... scripture memorization... vision boards... prayer beads... liturgical prayer... talking with God throughout the day... scribbling reminders on my hand... and a dozen other ways, to inch closer to my goal of learning to pray during every minute of every day.

And gradually...

Through my searching...

I began to taste heaven on earth. 

It didn't happen all at once. And I certainly had my fair share of "one step forward two steps back"... and moments of spiritual tiredness... and there was even a 3-year period when I mostly drifted away from prayer altogether (story for another day)...

... but over the years God faithfully led me into deeper prayer. And the deeper I went, the more I discovered a life that was better than anything I had previously imagined was possible to experience on this side of death. 

It was the life I had always wanted. 

The one I had seen in dreams and visions. 

And then,

In November of 2020,

While I was busy building a career as a digital marketing consultant...

I was praying in my room one day, and I asked God if there was anything He wanted to say to me. Then I stopped to listen. And He spoke. And told me... 

... to leave most of my marketing income... and to start helping other Christians to pray more.

Gulp. 

... 

"...that's not exactly what I was expecting you to say, God. Are you SURE that's what you want me to do?" 

So I Quit 80% Of My Marketing Client Work, Cleared Out My Schedule, And Then...

... I built a website. 

And used my digital marketing skills to run Facebook ads to that website. 

And I started writing daily emails... 

... in which I told stories, and broke down complicated ideas, and talked about how any Christian could step into untold glories and possibilities... by learning to pray continuously.
