Dear sister or brother in Christ,

All my life I have felt like an odd duck within the church.

I first prayed "the prayer" when I was 6. 

I went to church with my family every Sunday. 

I was the kid at Sunday school who every teacher loved, because I was quiet, polite, and knew all the answers. 

But everything changed when I listened to a sermon on YouTube at age 13. 

In that moment something woke up inside me. 

It felt like scales had fallen from my eyes. 

I felt a burning pang appear inside my depths, a deep hunger for more God... more prayer... more closeness... 

At that point, 

my life

my family's lives

my friend's lives

all suddenly seemed so... shallow. So empty. As if they were barely even shadows, of the life we were REALLY meant to be living. I looked around me, and it suddenly seemed like we were all playing games with our lives, and missing out on some far more beautiful, far more dangerous, far more 'everything we've ever wanted' life... somewhere out there, in the deep end of reality... 

"But WHAT Are We Missing???"

So at age 13,

I began searching

for something deeper.

Deeper than 15 minute quiet times.

Deeper than going to church once a week and occasionally helping out at events.

Deeper than evangelistic bumper stickers, and listening to Christian radio hits, and trying to cut out swear words from my vocabulary.

I was utterly convinced. That I - and the vast majority of Christians around me - were missing something. Something that the apostles in Acts had. 

So in high school, I started searching for answers: WHAT are we missing??? 

I read through thick theology books.

I spent whole days where I did nothing but read my Bible.

I filled notebook after notebook with journaling.

I prayed for hours at a time.

I took long walks in the cornfields behind my house and talked to God.

Searching... for that "something"... that was missing from my walk with God... 

And Then One Day...

... I stumbled across a small book. 

Just 100 pages long. 

About the size of my hand.

And when I began to read this little book... it 'clicked' for me. 

And I realized that...

... my deepest joy... my greatest peace... my strongest sense of being a part of something far bigger than myself... had always come to me while I was praying. 

And then this little book

Posed a question

Which focused all my burning desire for a deeper life with God, a deeper faith, a deeper intimacy... into a single, practical direction: 

If prayer brings me into God's presence, and God's presence changes me... why not teach myself to pray every minute of every day? 

How I Found Heaven On Earth

And so towards the end of high school I became obsessed with this question:

HOW. 

In very concrete, very practical terms...

... can any woman, and any man, regardless of what job or role or physical condition they are in...

...  take steps towards a life of minute-by-minute prayer - and keep on stepping in that direction until they find heaven on earth - and live their entire lives, continuously, from that place?

I spent the next decade of my life trying to answer that question, 

And along the way I tried setting timers on my phone to remind me to pray... I tried "breath prayers"... scripture memorization... vision boards... prayer beads... liturgical prayer... talking with God throughout the day... and a dozen other ways, to inch closer to my goal of learning to pray continuously, during every minute of every day.

I certainly had my fair share of "one step forward two steps back"...  and there was even a 3-year period when I mostly drifted away from prayer altogether (story for another day)

But over the years...

Through my searching...

I began to taste heaven on earth. 

I found a depth of living relationship with God... that I simply cannot fully describe with words. Because it was just. So. Beautiful. And powerful. And wonderful. 

And I became more convinced than ever, that

"THIS. THIS life - of total immersion in the presence of God, all the time, no matter where we are or what we are doing, whether we are driving or doing chores or talking with people or working at the computer - no matter what, holding an awareness of God, listening to Him, inviting Him closer... 

...THIS life, is everything we have ever wanted. THIS is the life we have seen 'in dreams and visions.'"

And then,

In November of 2020,

While I was in the middle of building a successful career as a digital marketing consultant...

I was praying in my room one day, and I asked God if there was anything He wanted to say to me.

He told me to leave most of my marketing income... and to start teaching other Christians what I had learned about living a life of continuous prayer.

Gulp. 

"Are you *sure* that's what you want me to do, God?"

... I built a website.
